Lync Server 2013: Enable-CSTopology Failed

Environment:

Lync Server 2013

Skype for Business 2015

Issue:

We had installed a Skype for Business 2015 server however prior to the migration we need to update the Lync Server 2013 to the latest cumulative update.

The update completed successfully however in the CU instructions in step 4 it states:

Step 4: Enable the Mobility service

To enable the Mobility service, run the following cmdlet:

Enable-CsTopology

When we ran the cmdlet: Enable-CSTopology on the Lync Server 2013 we received the error:

Enable-CSTopology : Command execution failed: “1” error categories reported in topology document. at line:1 char:1

Resolution:

Since the Skype for Business Server 2015 is now in the topology, the Enable-CSComputer MUST be run on the Skype for Business Front-End Server using the Skype for Business Server 2015 management shell.
