Issue:
In the situation we were having the client wanted to have the option for an end-user to opt out of voicemail to email but still wanted them to have voicemails.
Resolution:
Step 1 – Create the account and enable the mailbox
- Create a new Active Directory Account
- Connect to your Exchange Environment https://mail.domain..com/ecp with the appropriate credentials
- Enable the new Active Directory User Account for an Exchange Mailbox
- The account does not require email from the outside as this is voicemail only.
- Use the default retention setting from the mailbox database.
- Do no display this account in the GAL
- Select what database the mailbox will reside.
- Complete the mailbox creation.
Step 2 – Enable the mailbox for Exchange UM
- Connect to your Exchange Environment https://mail.domain..com/ecp with the appropriate credentials
- Select Recipients -> Click Mailboxes
- Search for the User-Extension name you wish to enable Ex: 1234@domain.com
- Select them from the list below
- On the right hand side under Phone and Voice Features select Enable
- Click Browse and Select the correct UM Mailbox Policy , click Next
- Click ok
- On the User configuration Page
- Enter the x digit extension number of the new Users Phone number.
- Leave the other fields default
- Pin Settings – Type in a Pin
- Make sure the pin number adheres to the Pin Policy
- Click Finish
- Provide the pin number to the user directly via email as they will not be receiving the welcome to Exchange Unified Messaging Email
